Crocodile monitor enclosure & bioactive setup

Give one adult at least 360 × 180 × 240 cm (142 × 71 × 94 inches). Best kept alone. This species suits a tropical arboreal bioactive build.

  1. Leaf litter2 cm
  2. Jurassic ABG Terrarium Mix12 cm
  3. Base layer – packed coco fibre13 cm
  4. Drainage – clay bio balls5 cm

Most of the action is vertical – keep the soil moist but not wet, and focus on perches and dense planting. This species digs, so give it 25 cm (10 in) of substrate in total. Only the top 12 cm needs to be bioactive soil; the 13 cm underneath can be cheaper coco fibre, dampened and packed firm.

Temperature: Basking 45–50°C, ambient 28°C. Humidity: 70–90%. UVB: Required.

Some Canadian provinces and many municipalities restrict or ban this species. Check your local bylaws and any provincial permit rules before buying.
